Proving that history is all around us this tour looks at new discoveries about the history of the church and its construction.
During 2024 it was noted that render had fallen from the outside of the church revealing walls which were quite different to those of its interior. Subsequent investigation of the outside walls revealed a potential sequence of buildings on the site the oldest of which could be over 1000 years old. The evidence also suggests that sometime in the 12th century the church building collapsed and was rebuilt.
St Mary Magdalene church Leintwardine is an important church with a rich early history which is being brought to light through the new work by the Leintwardine History Society. This is a ‘work in progress’ and we invite you to look at the new evidence with us and help identify and reconstruct the development of the church.
