SAXON Church Tour

Tracing our Saxon Roots – a tour of six of the best Saxon churches in the county
A guided tour by minibus of six of Herefordshire’s finest Saxon churches. Starting at Leominster Priory. Friday 12th June, 10:00-16:15. Booking essential. £30 pp

On Friday 12th June 10am – 4pm Fr Guy Cole and Neil Ramsay lead an intimate tour of the best preserved Saxon churches in the diocese of Hereford. Starting at Leominster Priory, the tour will take in St Giles Acton Beauchamp, St Leonards Hatfield, St Mary Edwin Loach, St Peter Diddlebury, St Peter Stanton Lacey and one other surprise.

This tour explores out-of-the-way and little-known gems with Anglo-Saxon and Anglo-Norman architecture. Through the tour the major features of Anglo-Saxon architecture will be identified, the historical background described and we anticipate a lively discussion about whether Anglo-Saxon architecture ends with the Norman Conquest!

Stout shoes or walking boots recommended. Much of the tour will be looking at church exteriors and walking around churchyards. It will proceed even in wet weather. Warm clothes might be needed in the churches.

There are no shops or pubs nearby so bring your own packed lunch. Drinks will be available at lunchtime and teatime. Toilets stops will be scheduled.

The tour does not include Leominster Priory. The group will be divided into two minibuses. The £30pp fee includes all transport.
