Canon Christopher Pullin, Chancellor of Hereford Cathedral from 2008 – 2022 will return to give this year’s Ethelbert Lecture which explores the creation of Hereford Diocese.
The foundation of what became Hereford Diocese was part of an overarching plan enacted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the tough monk Theodore of Tarsus. In a world of tensions, intrigues and invasions among the Anglo Saxons and on the Continent, there was deep suspicion in Rome about what was going on in England, and about the actions of its ‘wildcard appointee,’ an eastern archbishop who knew Constantinople better than he knew Colchester.
The lecture begins at 4pm but everyone is welcome to join us from 3.30pm for refreshments.
This is a free event, but booking is essential Book below or via the ticket desk. The cathedral ticket desk is open for in person or telephone queries via 01432 374 202 from Monday – Saturday, 10am – 5 pm.
