Sutton Walls is one of the most significant hillforts in Britain. The inhabitants erected huge ramparts (walls) to defend their hill top. Between 1948 and 1951 famous archaeologist Kathleen Kenyon excavated the site revealing 500 years of occupation of the hillfort with remains of roundhouses, cooking hearths and burials dating from the Iron Age to the Roman period and beyond.
Stories about Anglo-Saxon kings, betrayal and murder are part of the rich history of Sutton Walls. Visit www.suttonwalls.co.uk to read more about this site.
