10 – 18 May 2025, Wellington Dovecote
A display of village history through themed photographs in the church plus the chance to step inside the 18th century octagonal dovecote.
The village dovecote at Stocks Yard is a listed building, dating from the 18th century. Whilst our county is peppered with dovecotes, this example was restored earlier this century and is in good condition. Inside the nest recesses can be viewed and there will be a display of photos of the dovecote over the years. The dovecote is an integral part of village life; almost all traffic in the village goes beside it; children walk past it on their way to school; it is part of the football club badge. Just across from the dovecote, St Margaret’s Church will have a general village history display at the rear of the church, reproduced mainly from the village online archive. Wellington Parish History Society is the organiser of this event. There is no charge, but donations to the church, through the collection box inside St Margaret’s would be welcomed. Please use the car park at Wellington Community Centre, beside the school.
The photo display and access to the dovecote will be 9-5 each day 10th-18th May. Visitors will not be accompanied on their visit.
